EMERALD- 'SMARAGDOS'

Dazzling Emerald

A fine and unusually large 10 carat emerald cut emerald from Madagascar.

The name emerald comes from the Greek "smaragdos"  and  means 'green gemstone'.

Colombia is at the top of the list in terms of the countries in which fine emeralds are found.

Fine emeralds are also found in other countries, such as Zambia, Brazil, Zimbabwe, Madagascar, Pakistan, India, Afghanistan and Russia., and not forgetting Brazil which also has an excellent reputation for fine emeralds in the international market.

Stones are available upon request.

Emerald belongs to the mineral species of Beryl and it is not until other trace elements of chromium or vanadium are added that  the stone is able to display its vibrant green colour.

Emerald has a hardness of 7.5-8 on the 'Mohs hardness scale' which makes it suitable for a ring stone yet also very prone to breaking if knocked inadvertently in the wrong direction.
